On-Demand: Moving beyond “Provided Emotional Support”: Introducing Pollin’s Psychosocial Dimensions of Illness
Presenter: Lizzie Cogan
Originally Presented: October 20, 2020
Description:
Just as Kubler-Ross provided a framework to understand death and dying, we present Pollin’s Psychosocial Dimensions of Illness (PPDI) as a model to understand the experience of serious illness. Our framework is adapted from a counseling model developed by Irene Pollin, MSW (1995). We focus on the application of PPDI as a shared professional vocabulary. PPDI offers social workers a means to communicate our expertise and lead the healthcare team in providing psychosocial support.
