Northern California Chapter

The Northern California Chapter of the Society for Social Work Leadership in Health Care consists of social work professionals, working in various health care settings across Northern California, who are dedicated to:

  • Promoting the universal availability, accessibility, coordination and effectiveness of health care that addresses the psychosocial components of health and illness,
  • Working together for the well-being of our patients and their families,
  • Leading, promoting, developing and supporting social work practice in health care.

The benefits of membership in our chapter include:

  • Discounted Continuing Education Units (CEUs).
    • CEU events will include 1, 2 or 3-day events offering 6 to 18 CEUs.  Past events have included the:  Medical Social Work Intensive, and the SSWLHC Regional Leadership Institute
  • Access to Northern California Chapter Membership Google Group, an email-based service which allows easy communication with all chapter members for sharing of news and information as well as for seeking support from peers who face similar professional issues and challenges.
  • Two (2) membership meetings a year.  These meetings are an opportunity to connect with other members, get involved with activities that the Chapter is planning and provide feedback to the Chapter Board.

8th Annual Medical Social Work Intensive
When:  April 28-29 from 8am-5pm

Where:  UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland, CA

Come join us for two full days of the Medical Social Work Intensive offering education and guidance from some of the leaders in the field! The Intensive is designed to be a unique opportunity for social workers interested in medical settings to come together to learn new skills and celebrate the profession.  The Intensive was originally created for people new to medical social work, either new graduates or those considering a career transition.  We have since heard from experienced medical social work practitioners that the Intensive is a valuable and energizing experience, helping social workers refocus the work they already do on a daily basis.

Course meets the qualifications for 12 hours of continuing education credit for LCSWs.
